Whatsapp, the most popular instant messaging service supporting a wide range of mobile platforms like iOs, Android,  Symbian, Fire, Blackberry. In a recent blog post on their official website whatsapp has revealed a shocking news. Read through!

End of support

Whatsapp has listed a few models of mobile devices which is being sacked by the end of 2016.

  • BlackBerry, including BlackBerry 10
  • Nokia S40
  • Nokia Symbian S60
  • Android 2.1 and Android 2.2
  • Windows Phone 7.1

“While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future.”

Whatsapp has cited that they wanted to concentrate on the smartphones majority of the people use and the aforementioned models don’t have any scope for improvement in terms of the application. Whatsapp has been around the market for seven years now and with blackberry covering only 1% of the mobile users, it is not a good idea to drag around blackberry. The other reason would be the struggle to make the application compatible with all the new features that are coming in.

Change your phones

But what strikes me the most is that the main objective of such instant messaging services is to connect the people all around the world but instead whatsapp is choosing to sack some of the platforms is quite a rash decision considering the technical difficulties. So,time to change your mobile phones Blackberry and Nokia users.
